that the portrayal has a supremely tactile presence.
The illusion is astonishingly complete and goes hand in hand
with an intensely coloured palette.
The artist’s brush betrays his admiration of the 17th century masters
of the Low Countries such as Rembrandt,
Gerard Dou and Johannes Vermeer.
